In Greek mythology, Leo was associated with Herecles (Hercules). Herecles was sent to kill the Nemean Lion. The lion was savage and fearless as he couldn’t be harmed by weapons. The arrows bounced right off him, so Heracles wrestled the lion and strangled it to death.
